Curated by Burcu Perçin, the exhibition “Respect for Existence” will be held between 14 March – 1 April 2023,
It meets the audience at MERKUR.
Burcu Perçin's statements regarding the exhibition titled "Respect for Existence", which includes Alper Aydın, Ahmet Duru, Burcu Perçin, Evren Sungur, İrem Tok, Serkan Demir, Sibel Horada, Sinem Dişli, Yusuf Sevinçli and Yüksel Arslan, are as follows:
“Artists have been nourished by nature in every age and have seen it as a resource. Since man is a part of nature, the emergence of nature-human-art unity is very normal. From the 1960s to the present, artists, being aware of how industrialization has destroyed nature, have drawn attention to the disappearance of nature and its transformation from its own functioning to the control and use of human beings. To date, many artists have produced and continue to produce works that point to the problems facing our planet.
The recent environmental destruction, especially in Turkey, the destruction of natural resources and beauties have greatly damaged us and all living things.
We need to think and discuss more together the responsibilities of the artist or any individual for our environment.
So what do we do now?
What can we do together to offer awareness and action tools, to find new ways? By believing in the power of creativity and artistic sensitivity to trigger change, how can we strengthen the cooperation between the anthropocene art world and sensitive environmentalists and activists?
While we dream of a sustainable world, what can we do differently with a sustainable response and determination? How can we find solutions beyond talking about problems?
Based on these questions, the exhibition includes works that reflect deep concern and sensitivity towards the increasingly destructive impact of human beings on the environment.
I believe that we can make a stronger contribution to change by finding new ways together with the artists I invite, in search of conveying social and environmental awareness to wider audiences.
With the curiosity and excitement of using the power of acting together, I hope this exhibition will continue to grow in the upcoming period.”
The works created by different mediums by 10 artists who contribute to the formation of environmental awareness based on the relationship between man and nature can be seen at MERKUR until April 1, 2023.
A portion of the revenue from sales during the exhibition will be donated to AHBAP for the earthquake disaster in 11 provinces, which deeply saddens us all.
